School and Clinical Update

School was cancelled again today. Surprise, surprise. I have two more school days till we take our test over Renal, we have not had one single lecture over it. I am having to teach myself, and boy the snow couldn't have picked a better time to come. NOT. I am so tired of sitting at home. The teachers are bogging us down with busy work that is taking time away from studying and trying to learn the material. I also have to miss a day next week because of the deployment ceremony. Not cool, it's the review day before the test. Hubby is trying to get me not to go to the ceremony because he isn't going to be able to ride with me, and it is boring because a bunch of people talk about unnecessary things. I don't blame him for trying to talk me out of it, but I can't be the "bad wife" that doesn't attend. It just wouldn't be right. I know deep down inside that he will need my support.

I guess I am trying to say I am prepared to fail the Renal exam.

On a brighter note,
clinicals went well yesterday. I didn't get to do anything fun and my patient was rather boring because she was very independent and needed little help. She had a total knee replacement. I practically just gave meds all day and flushed her saline lock.

I have been on the computer for hours now doing homework, so I am going to sign off for the night and relax some. Good night y'all!

  1. I know exactly how you are feeling. Don't give up completely on this test though, I'm sure the teachers know that it isn't easy teaching yourself and maybe, JUST maybe, they will go easy on all of us poor nursing students who haven't been able to catch a break. We had a make up lecture which I fully planned on going to until my oldest had a nasty asthma attack. SOoooooo, no lecture for me. I have clinical tomorrow, still in the school system so I won't likely see anything "cool" but at least it's something.

As for the deployment ceremony.... as a fellow nursing student I'd say "well, maybe you could at least attend part of lecture" but the Military Wife in me slaps the student..... Basically, I'd do the same thing you are planning. It's not easy juggling everything, but doing it is what makes us the best kind of wives. ::wink::

You're going to do great, and even if you're grade is slightly lower than you'd want... well, it's not the only exam of the semester. You can bring up your overall grade next time around. You're going to make a fantastic nurse.

  2. I had school for the pre-deployment briefing this last time, so I didn't skip. They didn't talk about anything my husband couldn't relay to me He went and just made sure to let me know what was said. No big deal. They really aren't a big deal. If you think school is going to be important that day, I honestly wouldn't miss.

  3. Awww, I always hated snow days when I was in school. Class might get cancelled, but that just meant that the teachers found a way to add more work to you. Good luck!

  4. I can't wait till i start clinicals.
And don't say that you're prepared to fail. If you keep that attitude that's exactly what will happen. I'm sure you will do better than what you are anticipating. Think positive. (Says the person that's freakin' out over her pharm test.)

  5. I will tell you all you need to know about the renal system: PEE! When they stop peeing, there's probably a big problem coming your way.
